Photoelastic material
WebJun 23, 2024 · With PhotoStress, a thin layer of the photoelastic plastic is bonded to the surface of actual parts or structures which can be of any material, shape or size. The photoelastic coating is then viewed with a reflection-type polariscope which reveals the pretty rainbow stress patterns. WebPhotoelasticity is useful as a design tool, to understand complex phenomenological issues, and as an excellent teaching aid for stress analysis. It can be used to study models made of transparent plastics, prototypes made of different materials, and also directly on end products such as glass components.
