Most other headsets have their own way of letting you know that it is muted. Personally I use the Sennheiser PC37x with my Mixamp Pro TR, that headset is flip-to-mute. LEDs stay white. WebIf you still have the A40 Audio Cable that came in the box and you own the Xbox One Controller with a 3.5mm controller, try connecting your headset this way to see if everything works fine and you can rule it down to the MixAmp M80 being the issue.
