Although many residents work in the local trades like leather or recycling, many want their children to get a leg up and get a higher education. He began the Night Study Class (NSC) to teach Dharavi’s children academic subjects and prepare them to integrate into Mumbai’s rapidly changing economy. Avinash recruited through Dharavi’s public schools; most of the children he attracted were children of migrants, many born in Dharavi itself.
